Behind The Lens

Location

The Photo itself was actually taken with my laptop computers camera while on a flight to Hong Kong. I have always been creative, dabbling in everything from sculpting to 3-D computer rendering. I had recently installed Photoshop Elements on my laptop and with nothing better to due on a 15 hour flight I decided to play around a little and see what I could come up with.

Time

Hmmm, that is a very good question. We had been in the air a couple of hours, enough time to watch a movie and have a couple drinks, not that I recommend that lol. I think it was about 2:30 p.m. flying West from Chicago.

Lighting

The lighting was a mixture of airplane cabin lighting and natural light from above the clouds.

Equipment

The equipment used? Toshiba laptop camera and the tray attached to the seat in front of mine. I guess this goes to show you that you don't need the latest, greatest gadgets to create something unique and visually appealing.

Inspiration

I think a lot of it had to do with a steady diet of lead paint chips when I was younger. No, I'm just kidding. As I mentioned, I have always been creative and I love it when I am able to create art (sculptures, Photos etc. Yes photography is art) as I was exploring the different things I could do with Photoshop Elements I thought it would be interest if I showed myself creating a picture of myself.

Editing

When I was first starting to get involved in Photography (with 35mm film) I didn't like the thought of post processing. I felt that the true art came from being able to produce the final imaging all in camera (backing the film up to produce double exposures etc.). I quickly learned that it is impossible to create many images without post processing. While I am still learning I now know enough to make me dangerous. For this image I used Photoshop Elements 10 It is a nice addition to my Photoshop CS6.

In my camera bag

I began learning photography years ago using a Minolta X-700 35mm SLR. I only really started back up about a year ago when I purchased a Pentax K-30 DSLR. so far my bag only carries the body and two prime lens, a 18-55mm and a 55-300mm, along with a Yongnuo YN 560 speedlight. My immediate plans are to add a wide angle lens and more lighting equipment.

Feedback

My advise would be to purchase a West bound flight leaving around 1 p.m. lol. Actually, The only advise I can offer is never stop being creative and look beyond the way others see the everyday world. While it is great to have the latest, greatest equipment, you are really only limited by your imagination and desire to create. Look at the photos other members have posted here on Viewbug for inspiration. I can honestly say I have been blown away by the work of many photographers here.
