Location
This photo was taken on a bed of lava rocks near a secluded beach on the Big Island near Kona, Hawaii.Time
My husband and I had driven to the area and then hiked to the beach. After getting settled, I decided to do some exploring with my camera. There were some old buildings that looked interesting, but as I went behind the building I saw some movement in the lava rock behind the shed. Slowly, I went over towards the movement and was quite thrilled to see a family of goats. I believe it was early afternoon. I crept towards the family of goats desperately trying to steady my stance in order to take the photograph. I took several shots as I tried to stand steady on the uneven lava rock. It wasn’t until later that I realized I had put myself in a compromised position. That big goat could have turned on me at any moment, and I’m sure he could have moved much faster than myself.Lighting
I was fortunate enough to have great natural light. I was just trying to get as many shots as possible before the goats moved and before the lighting changed.Equipment
I used a Canon EOS rebel T3i with a Canon zoom lens EF 75-300mm lens..Inspiration
I was inspired by the pure thrill of seeing these goats so close to me in such a unique setting. The most difficult part was holding myself steady enough to get a clear shot. I was so excited that I was literally shaking.Editing
I did very little post processing. I believe I sharpened it slightly and defined the contrast a bit.In my camera bag
My husband and I are usually together on phot shoots and we have a Canon T6 and the 850 , with 18 -55mm, and the 75-300 as well as different filters and a tripod. Just recently purchased a 420mm, so looking forward to having that in our bag.Feedback
My advice is to hold your breath, walk slowly, be patient and take as many shots as you can while staying safe!!
