Behind The Lens

Location

This portrait was taken in early November 2014 at Tumalo State Park in Tumalo, Oregon.

Time

My client was having second thoughts about the shoot and was running 45 minutes late. We made it to the park with only about 15 minutes left of the day to shoot.

Lighting

It was the perfect storm, if you will. Client running late, past the perfect time of day. This image was a true blessing.

Equipment

I shoot with a Nikon D5100 DX. No flash was used. Lense was Nikon DX 55-300.

Inspiration

A friend asked me to take her daughters senior portraits because they were short on cash. I just moved back to the area and wanted to start my business so a shooting we went! The subject was so self conscious and the final product boosted her self esteem. They moved into the area about 9 months prior to our shoot and she had not adjusted well to the change. It was a blessing in my life to be able to show this girl how beautiful she is!

Editing

I used Portrait Pro to edit the subjects face and make her magazine worthy. She also had about 6 inches of roots so I used SmartPhoto Editor to fill in her roots. That was all the editing that was done. no messing with the colors!

In my camera bag

I normally have my Nikon and 2 lenses: Nikon DX 18-55, Nikon DX 55-300. I would love to get an external flash!

Feedback

Get to know your equipment. Don't be shy of keeping a photographers journal. Don't pay attention to all the photography normalities. Shoot what you like. Take your camera everywhere and remember to have fun!
