I've always advocated setting yourself up for success. In this instance, I planted lotus in my koi pond. The blooms are nearly a foot across, and shooting down from the edge of the pond provided a nice dark background. This photograph gives lie to the idea of shooting only around the "golden hours" of sunrise and sunset to get the best images. These particular flowers only bloom in the late morning and early afternoon.
