The photo was taken at Memorial Hospital in Springfield, IL. I am a self-trained photographer in the Oakford area.Time
This was one of the days I will never forget! It was around 11 o'clock in the morning on Sunday, July 28th, 2013. I got the phone call that this beautiful baby was born. I grabbed a few props and my camera then headed for the door. I didn't realize that the gas gauge on our car quit working so hopped in and was ready to go. I made it halfway down my street before my car ran out of gas so I ended up walking halfway home before my husband made it to me. I was determined to make it to this beautiful rainbow though!!! We got me back up and going and I hurried to see this family and capture these beautiful feet around 12 noon that day.Lighting
I wanted this image to show the depth of the creases on the babies feet so that the mother and father could keep them forever. Therefore, I used the window lighting as natural lighting is always best for babies. Then I added a bit more shadows on her feet so that we could see the deep creases with our own eye.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon EOS Rebel T3 with the 18-55mm lens and that is it. There were no reflectors or flashes used within this session.Inspiration
I was looking at photos that had been taken but none of these photos show the creases in depth. I decided that since I had never had a photograph of the detail of my children I would make sure she got this of her beautiful little girl.Editing
With this photography I had to use Photoshop. I added a bit more shadows to pull more depth into the creases on the feet. Then I turned the photograph to a black and white and added a bit of color to make it pop.In my camera bag
As for my equipment I always have my Canon EOS Rebel T3, then my 4 lenses 18-55mm, nifty 50, 35-80, and the 75-300mm. With these I keep a digital speed light, the flash arm, extra batteries, and my Sekonic Flashmate L-308S. Since I am just starting out I try to make sure that I am building upwards and doing everything I can to make myself a better photographer and business woman.Feedback
Honestlly, the advice I would give to others trying to capture something similar is to have a ton of patience. You must like babies, expect to be peed on, pooped on, and possibly spit up on. I say this because you will have to put their feet back in place multiple times just to get the shot you want if the baby is awake. However, you would want to use a zoom lens or the nifty 50 because they capture more detail than most other lenses. Other than that make sure that you are ready to handle a baby and the new parents. It is much easier when the parents and baby feel more comfortable with you. Get down to the same level of the baby's feet and make sure your focus is on the creases so that you capture them better.
