Location
This photo was taken at Middleton Plantation in Charleston, South Carolina. My cousin and I were on vacation and this was one of her main places to visit. Little did I know I would have the chance to walk upon a photo op like this one. This is one of my favorite photos that I have ever taken.Time
This photo was taken during the afternoon/evening hours of the day. We had a cloudy day and there was rain that day, so that's the reason for no bright natural light affecting the photo.Lighting
All I had at my disposal was a cloudy day to help kill any brightness that sunny natural light would have given. I really think that if the sun had been out in full, the bright natural light would have killed the photo. It helped that there were 100 year old oak trees within the area.Equipment
This was shot on my Nikon Cool Pix camera. Nothing else special. Maybe used the zoom on the lens, but no special lens, tripod or any other equipment.Inspiration
You can look at the photo itself and see the inspiration. The peacocks on the plantation were so used to people visiting that they did not run from you. We were walking around the plantation while taking photos of the buildings, the gardens, the lake and really anything that caught our eye. I turned around and noticed that the peacocks were sort of following us and, loving peacocks, I had to get a photo of them. We were standing near the brick wall, and they just got on the brick wall and stayed there as long as we were standing there. When I saw them on the wall with the crepe myrtles full of moss in the background, I had to seize the moment. I took a photo straight up/down, but didn't care for it. So this one was taken while I held the camera at a 45 degree angle.Editing
No post processing. In my camera bag
The only equipment I keep is my camera. It has both digital and optical zoom lens on the camera which is the reason I bought it.Feedback
My advice for capturing a photo like this is to always be on your guard when traveling. Always keep your eye for the eclectic elements that are surrounding you. Have fun with angles, never be afraid to try and don't ever disagree with your eye. I always take more that one photo of an element that has caught my eye and used different angles, different zooms. There is a reason you can use the delete button...if it's not what you thought, delete and try again.
