Pacu Jawi or can be referred to in Indonesian cattle race is a traditional game of attraction that are contested in Tanah Datar regency , West Sumatra , Indonesia . Every year , the cow race held in rotation for four weeks in four districts in Tanah Datar regency , namely Pariangan district , rambatan district, Limo Kaum district , and Sungai Tarab district . Pacu Jawi has existed since hundreds of years ago , which was originally an activity undertaken by farmers after the harvest season for leisure as well as a means of entertainment for the local community . Unlike the cattle on the island of Madura races held on a dry track , Pacu Jawi in Tanah Datar regency was held in the paddy fields after harvest of the local population and in muddy conditions . Interestingly , a pair of his own cows just ran unopposed , not with opposite sex couples as befits a race . Where , judgment is righteous or not righteous pair of cows in the running , in addition to travel time trajectory assessment .
Moreover , this activity is also combined with the tradition of the local community , such as dance performances and traditional musical instruments play .

For me "Pacu Jawi" is very photogenic . Expression jockey , splashing mud and cow -speed very interesting to captured with my camera. This event should be preserved, because this is traditional sport and culture from Minangkabau Tribe.Editing

Because to many mud splash in Pacu Jawi field, i suggest to photographers to bring a rain coat and cover for camera body. Its so dirty in this field
