This photo was taken in Birr Castle, ireland. I had just made a purchase of a second hand 70-200 lens and thought the castle grounds might be a good training ground for meTime
taken early afternoon - but it was obviously not a shot that can be pre-plannedLighting
I didn't use anything other than natural light on this shotEquipment
I am very new to photography, and self taught. This was taken with a nikon d5100 entry level camera with a second hand tamron 70-200 f2.8 lensInspiration
I am self taught landscape photographer. The biggest thing for me is to build up composition from the background up. I applied the same principles here - just I had to be a lot quicker :) I have only limited experience, but I find even with animals and wildlife, just having a shot is nearly useless- it still needs something else to be a keeper. In this image a soft out of focus castle set right in the frame was perfect.Editing
I take my images in raw so only very basic raw processing done on this.In my camera bag
I use a 50mm 1.8 for almost everything and tamron 70-200 for anything that zoom is a must. I don't think I have used the kit lens in a few years now but I do still carry it. I have a sb700 speedlight that I use for most light scenariosFeedback
I was lucky here in that I did a few seconds to think. The eagle needed something so getting the background right then focus right on the eye really produced an image that I'm very proud of. Many thanks to everyone that has liked and awarded it. For a newcomer to photography, it's more encouraging than you'd know
