Mt Yasur in Vanuatu is an active volcano that allows tourists to climb up to the crater rim. This shot was taken at dusk, but the smoke darkens the scene considerably. If you're ever shooting a live volcano, there are four essentials you need:
1. A tripod. (Just don't bother without it)
2. A release for your camera.
3. Moderate-to-super telephoto lens to shoot from a safe distance.
4, Willingness to lug it all up steep ash-covered volcanoes, only to gag on the stench of brimstone, have ash, dust, and smoke blow into your face. Also, you'll need to deal with unexpected explosions, at any time, and without warning.. Yes, there's a slightly higher risk of death, and no hospital on the island.

If you have these things, and it sounds like fun, then I completely recommend it. It's a life-changing experience.
