Behind The Lens

Location

This is a petal of marigold flower. It was was clicked indoor, at my home in Mumbai.

Time

This photo of floating petal was clicked in the afternoon.

Lighting

We normally have bright sunny afternoons, so natural light is my first and obvious choice while clicking the photo.

Equipment

I kept the petal in a water filled bowl near the window. There was light breeze that was moving the petal smoothly. You can see the reflection as well as its gentle movement and the lines formed on water surface. I clicked it by my Nikon D3200, 18-55mm, f/3.5-5.6. I used 10x magnifying filter to get the macro details.

Inspiration

I am more interested in macro photography and so I always keep searching for the things to click. One such afternoon, marigold flower grabbed my attention. Each petal of flower has nice shape and curvy lines.

Editing

The basic things such as brightness, contrast, sharpness were adjusted. In the original photo, there was a mix of colors - of petal, water, shadows, reflections, a bit of blue sky etc. So to even it out, I turned it black and white. I guess that gives more attention to lines and shapes.

In my camera bag

I carry Nikon D3200 camera with Nikkor 18-55mm, f/3.5-5.6G lens and have recently got Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G lens. I use macro filters while clicking macro pictures. I have a macro lens in my wishlist!

Feedback

I like shooting patterns and macro. There is so much beauty in the details. Advanced, costly gear is great to have and it does give amazing results, however if one is really keen, then with basic kit gear also, you can capture nice pictures! Beauty is everywhere, we just have to be aware of it and look for it! Clicking gives creative satisfaction, happiness and it is fun to keep on experimenting too.
