Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in Yellowstone National Park, at Grand Prismatic Spring in July 2014 during my first visit in USA. I am an amateur photographer guided by this beautiful passion and I’m doing my best to capture beautiful pictures from all the places I visit.

Time

It was the first afternoon spent in Yellowstone. We’ve just arrived there and we went straight into the park. I remember about that day that it was very hot and after quite a big tour we went at Grand Prismatic Spring to capture the sunset. The photo was taken on July 23, 2014 at 06:51 PM.

Lighting

I wanted to use the warm light of the sunset to point out the incredible colors from that place. So for this picture I didn’t use any additional light source.

Equipment

The picture was taken with a Nikon D7000 camera, with an 18-105mm f/3.5 -5.6 lens. I didn’t use any other equipment.

Inspiration

Before visiting Yellowstone National Park I studied a lot of other pictures taken by other visitors and photographers to make an idea about the landscape and the Park. In this case I was fascinated by the reflections in the water and those amazing colors. Also the light of the sunset and the activity of the volcano did the magic.

Editing

I was shooting in Jpeg format at that time and therefore I couldn't do to much post–processing. I increased a little bit the vibrance of the colors and decreased the Highlights.

In my camera bag

I’m trying to travel as light as possible. So usually in my bag you will find my camera(Nikon D7000) and two lenses, a wide one(Tokina 11-16mm, f/2.8) and an standard zoom lens(18-105mm, f/3.5-5.6). Also I have a tripod(Fancier WT-6625). In the future I plan to add a zoom lens(about 300 mm).

Feedback

I believe that if you don't do something with passion and love you will not have good results. Also, wherever you will take a photo, you have to know about the characteristics of the light, especially when you shoot in day light. You will have the most beautiful light in the early morning and in the late afternoon. In addition, when you are in a special place with beautiful landscapes, try to be relaxed and enjoy the moment and also you have to study about the composition and techniques in photography.
