Location
I took this photo in the garden of a friend, who is/was the owner of this dog. Was because the dog past away not much later.Time
It was in the afternoon at around 2 PM of the 4th december 2014. It wasn't cold at all and he was sick and took a moment for himself in the sun.Lighting
It was without flash, just normal daylight a few clouds in the sky.Equipment
The camera I used was the Nikon D7000 and the lens was a Lensbaby Composerpro with the sweet50 optic. No tripod or other equipment.Inspiration
My friend had a tough time at that moment with her dog, he was sick and the vet just told her he had major heart problems. I wanted to give her and her husband a memory and something from the heart. After I heard the bad news I went to them to take a few photos of their dog.... before it was too late. I will always remember this shoot, this was the first shoot in a sad moment.Editing
This is taken with the Lensbaby so there is not that many to edit. I was a bit distracted by the background, wrong color in my eyes and I made it black and white in Lightroom. Thats all that I did with this photo. I'm the SOOC person, I don't do too much with the original photo, let the photo speak by himself. In my camera bag
It depends were I'm going but the first thing I take is my Nikon D7000 and one of the Lensbaby optics. Most of the time the Sweet50. As extra lens I usually take my zoom lens Tamron 18-200mm. It's an easy going lens for all kind of photos and I can use it everywhere. But Lensbaby is my favorite lens to shoot with. It gives me a lot of creativity and opportunities.Feedback
If you want to photograph dogs or other animals, always focus on the eyes and be on the same level. If the dog lies on the ground, you have to lie on the ground also. Don't use flashlight with dogs, the most of them don't like it at all and you will have only one shot and most of the times the eyes are closed. Be quiet and calm, if you want a photo like this. If you stay calm the dog will also keep calm. To get attention make a little noice, don't call his/her name... most of the dogs are trained to come over when they hear their names. And this dog was very good trained by his owners. Don't put the ISO too high, it's better to keep it low, otherwise you get grain and who wants grainy eyes? No one!
