I was hiking at Santa Rosa Plateau in Southern California. Just off the trail I saw an oriole picking insects from these yellow-flowered stalks. She was wary of my approach, but split her attention between me and her food. I was able to step forward each time she looked away. I got within 2 1-2 meters and began shooting on manual focus to keep the foreground soft.
