Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on a trip to Penmon Point on The Isle of Anglesey North Wales.

Time

I left home at 8am on 3rd February 2015, as it is about 3.5 hour drive from Swadlincote South Derbyshire to Penmon Point, I arrived at Penmon Point about 11:35. The picture of Penmon Point Lighthouse was taken at 12:51.

Lighting

The lighting wasn't too good when I arrived, a short wait was the answer, waiting for the light to be just right, but the wait for the right light is always the answer and always worth it. It makes the wait worth while for any picture.

Equipment

The equipment I used is, Canon 70D body, Lens is a Tamron 18mm-200mm, A Giotoss Tripod, A Hoyer 9 stop ND Screw on filter and a shutter release to give a more stable picture.

Inspiration

I absolutely adore the North Welsh area, I had been looking on various websites for locations of Lighthouses and came across Penmon Point Lighthouse and after looking with various software such as Google Earth I desided that the trip would be worth it as there's not just the lighthouse but also Puffin Island in the backgrouond.

Editing

I shoot only Raw and as a result some post processing is required, this particular picture has had a small amoun of Contrast and Clarity added, Highlights and Shadows adjusted a small amount, a small amount of Vibrance added. Apart from Lens Correction nothing else has been done to the picture.

In my camera bag

I never levae home without, My Canon 70D, Tamron 17mm-50mm F2.8, Tamron 70mm-300mm, Canon 2 -105mm lenses . Invalometer, Neewer Speedlite, Yongnuo YN622C Triggers, 9 Stop screw on ND Filter, screw on Circular Polariser Filter, Cokin 1, 2, 3 stop ND Grad Filters, Giotoss Tripod and 7 Dayshop Monopod.

Feedback

1st is the most important, do as much research as possible, use google earth as it's invaluable. Travel as far as you need to or can afford. Don't leave home without all the equipment you think you will need, if you get to a locaton and you have forgot your tripod and you wanted to create silky water, you could have a huge problem and could cause you to think the trip is wasted. Once you arrive at your chosen location take the time to look around, have a cup of tea, look at the light, is it overcast, sunny, which direction is the sun coming from, do you need to wait for the clouds to break. Don't be in too much of a rush to snap the picture, taking your time to look around will give you chance to find a possible picture you could miss if you rush in and click, frame the shot to your liking, is it better in landscape or portrait, take the picture in both. Don't over process the picture when you get home, you may enjoy the picture better if you use minimul processing. But above all else take your time and enjoy the things you can see..
