Location
This photo was taken in a small studio in Virginia beach, VA. At an event hosted by The Studio- Hampton Roads. If you are in the area check out their amazing new location (http://www.thestudiohr.com/)Time
This photo was shot in the late morning/early afternoonLighting
Although the studio is relatively small it gets amazing natural light. Through a large picture window on one wall. All of the walls are painted white so it is like shooting in a giant soft box. I shot this image with the model's back to the window to create an airy feel.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon D5100 with a 50mm Nikkor 1.8G lens, no other equipment or lighting was used.Inspiration
I wanted to create a feeling of intrigue and mystery. The use of her reflection is deliberately enigmatic. I wanted to capture the natural beauty of her quiet self reflection.Editing
I don't like to over process my images. I used Lightroom to make a few slight adjustments to the overall tone of the image. I did not use any presets or Photoshop actions to process this image. In my camera bag
I don't like to carry a lot of equipment on location. I have the upper body strength of a flea so the lighter my bag is, the better. I shoot with a Nikon 5100 which is a crop sensor camera. I like the 50mm 1.8G, I think it is a great portrait lens for the money. I use my Nikkor 18-55mm 3.5-5.6G for a lot of landscapes and travel images; the zoom gives me more flexibility when it is impossible for either the subject or myself to move. We have a lot of wildlife in Monterey, CA. I have found the Nikkor 55-200mm 1.4-5.6G to be a great entry level telephoto lens. It is perfect for taking pictures of your subjects from a safe distance.Feedback
I think the MOST important thing to remember as a boudoir photographer is to focus on your client/ model and their experience. If your model isn't comfortable with you, it will show in the images. I want to take images that showcase a woman's natural beauty. I want my clients/ models to feel Confident and Empowered, not objectified.
