Location
This photo was taken at my grandma's house in Arizona. The cat was feral and on the hunt. She had about fifty or more running around her ten acres of desert oasis. A farmer later came and captured most of them to release on his farm to keep the field mice away.Time
This photo was taken around nine in the morning when I would have coffee with my grandma each day before she passed away. The perfect time to hunt for food and capture perfect lighting.Lighting
This photo was a little difficult. The blades of grass being so thin almost made it difficult to focus on the cats eye. The way the sunlight hit the cats eye made it glow green, making it the perfect opportunity to capture this intensity.Equipment
For this shot I used a Nikon D40 with a 300 mm lens. No flash was used, just natural lighting from the sun and shadows. The reason I used such a long lens was the clarity it gave me compared to my 55mm.Inspiration
I was inspired to take this photo due to the fact that it reminded me of a lion, ready to pounce on its unsuspecting victim at any second. He was well hidden, and I would often go to my grandma's to shoot photos. I took this for her, she was my inspiration for every photo.Editing
The only post-processing done to this photo is the clarification on the eye. Everything else is natural about it. No enhancement or lighting added to it.In my camera bag
I usually always carry two different size lenses, one for distance and one for closer. I always keep a macro lens as well. Several memory cards are kept in little slots made for them, as well as extra batteries, straps, cloths and lens covers. I also carry a cover for my bag and equipment in case of rain or shooting around water, or hiking. I also keep a picture of my kids for good luck.Feedback
If you are wanting to capture something with natural lighting, I always suggest early morning. Especially if you are wanting to capture nature in the moment. Most wildlife come out early morning and early evening. I always go for natural lighting only if I can.
