Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo while a friend and I were sitting by the Feeder Canal in Hudson Falls, New York.

Time

It was some time in the afternoon. We had probably just gotten out of work and we decided to go for a walk along the bike trail that runs beside the canal. It was late enough that it was just starting to get dark.

Lighting

My lighting was however much sun was still out. If I remember correctly, it was a day when it was partly cloudy, giving off a much softer light.

Equipment

I used my Canon 5D Mark ii with its 24-105 mm lens. Even though it was getting to the part of the day when I should have at least used a tripod, no other equipment besides the camera itself was used.

Inspiration

I love going for walks in nature with my camera. On this particular day, we were just walking along the bike trail and decided to take a break, sitting by the canal. Before we continued on our way, I glanced over and noticed this leaf, sort of on its own and thought that it might make an interesting piece.

Editing

I always try to do at least a little editing, just enough to make the photo better but not so much that it would be obvious. I mostly do this work in Lightroom.

In my camera bag

I, of course, have my Canon 5D Mark ii and it's 24-105 mm lens. Along with that, I keep an extra battery (if I'm not using a battery grip), lens cleaner and the user manual just in case something comes up in which I would need it.

Feedback

There is so much beauty in the world. From landscapes to something as simple and small as this leaf. All I can really say is to keep a photographer eye out for everything, because anything can make a great composition.
