Location
Franklin Park Conservatory in Columbus, Ohio. This was a Chihuly display that was inside the Conservatory on top of a sky light over a "cave".Time
12:09PM.Lighting
It was a typical cloudy grey day in Ohio and I was inside the conservatory (frost type glass windows), inside a cave laying on the floor, looking up at this which was laying on a flat piece of glass acting as a skylight.Equipment
Canon T3i and a Canon EFS 18-55mm lens. I used the (P) pattern setting and reduced the exposure to compensate for the brightness of the backlighting.Inspiration
First of all it was a gorgeous display, and secondly I wanted to take it home with me but obviously that would not be allowed. So a picture was the next best thing. I waited for a break in the flow of people then laid on my back and took the shot.Editing
No I did not. This was taken shortly after I got this camera (my first real camera), and it was quite an adventure for me to be off the automatic setting. I am just now starting to experiment with the post processes. In my camera bag
Canon T3i, 18-55 lens, 70-300 lens, 10-20mm lens, rubber band, remote release, tripod, extra memory card, and a cheat sheet for what the settings mean. :)Feedback
Don't be afraid to try something different. Every failure is an opportunity for growth. Spend time with your camera. I have seen really beautiful things that I never had the chance to take a picture of because I didn't have my equipment setup properly and fumbled during my opportunity. Remember to look at the screen objectively after a shot to make sure everything is how you want it. It's easier to take a good shot the first time then to try and correct it later. Take time when taking your shot, don't rush. Make sure you have calibrated every setting to it's peak performance, get to know your subject. For me photography is a relaxing, yet challenging hobby that provides great satisfaction.
