Behind The Lens

Location

Vista House is located along the Historic Columbia River Highway at the western entrance to the Columbia River Gorge. It sits atop Crown Point, 733 feet above the Columbia River.

Time

January 3rd 2011 Late afternoon

Lighting

I was concentrating on getting the rock work and glass. It was even harder to time this to not have a lot of people surrounding Vista House

Equipment

Canon XTi, Canon 18-55mm f3.5 kit lens, ancient non branded tripod

Inspiration

We go up to Crown Point several times a year just to view the building and the Columbia River Gorge view. It is a wonderful place and seeing it a various time of the year keeps it fresh

Editing

I did some straightening of the building along with minor lens correction, bumped saturation in CS4 and then ran through Neat Image

In my camera bag

I now have a Canon 60D, the same kit lens, a "nifty-fifty", 60mm macro and I am still using the same tripod. By the way, I bought the tripod in 1974 at KMart.

Feedback

Take your time, take more shots than you think you need, and vary your settings. You never know what will work out for you. Remember that most photos are taken of something you like, so don't worry if someone doesn't get as excited as you over one of them.
