Location
I was in Calgary Alberta with my boyfriend, at the time, and we were taking photos of the downtown core and the sunset.Time
It was at sunset in July 2014.Lighting
Nature controlled the lighting in this one. And I have to say it did a fabulous job of it!!Equipment
A T4i with my exes wide angle. I was still only in my very first year of photography when this was taken so I have no idea what lens. If I still have the original RAW, then the Metadata would probably say but I'm not sure at the time of writing. I can promise it was a Canon. It may have been an 85? But again my memory from 6 years ago might be completely wrong on that specific detail.Inspiration
I don't know. I don't think I was "inspired" per se. I went to go shoot sunset/downtown skyscraper photos with my ex and this was my favourite of them at the time.Editing
I am very much into post processing. I edit every photo I take. I think of the camera and the subject as my canvas and Lightroom is the brush. I don't usually alter things so that they aren't what was actually there, in front of me, but I will definitely make it look how I want it to look. Now a days, I edit for a feeling. I want to make it beautiful and bring out a feeling in my viewers. But back when this was taken, I was only 10 or 11 months into my first year. I think I bought my camera the first week of August 2013. So this was probably nothing more than me trying to make something beautiful while learning techniques and improving my skill. In my camera bag
My camera, and a 50mm 1.8 and a "5 in 1" reflector. When I have finally chosen one, I'll be adding one of the 85 primes and a longer range lens. I'm not sure which option I'll be going with yet so I'm still weighing pros and cons before I make a decision.Feedback
Check the weather (if it's possible to predict very colourful sunsets) and try to go out then. Or, notice that colour is happening and either hurry to a location or take advantage of the one you're in and photograph as much of it as possible because every minute, the colour and details of it change. I would recommend, if you can, to be prepared to commit up to 2 or 3 hours to capture a shot like this. The photo you take at 6:57pm will be totally different than the one 40 minutes later in a sunset shoot. I would recommend starting an hour to an hour and a half before it's scheduled to disappear for the night and just watch the light as it becomes more and more golden. You'll start to see more red enter the sky and then it'll turn to more pink and then when it starts to become more purple is when it's going behind the horizon. This one was just pure luck on my part back in my early days and I had no knowledge of sunsets but now I know the general ins and outs of them and of photographing them.
