Behind The Lens

Location

This is a tree in my front yard in Royal Center Indiana.

Time

This image was taken around 0800 (a.m.). I had a hot cup of coffee and was greeting the day and just having a look around.

Lighting

The lighting is all natural sunlight through an overcast sky. The lighting was enough to not need any amplification or augmentation. Also the light added an element, an element familiar to most people who have been in a snowy environment on mornings like this, cold. By looking at the tree you can almost feel the cold air nipping at exposed skin.

Equipment

My Nikon Coolpix P520 without flash. I love this camera it almost takes it's own pictures.

Inspiration

The peace this scene brought to me as I looked out of my window inspired me to capture it. As I looked out my window, memories of being a giddy boy on a Snow day or Holiday break from school rushing around for mittens and boots and my warmest coat so I could get to that sledding hill came rushing back. Get all dressed up breaking a light sweat with all the layers in the house and then rushing to my friends house sled in tow knowing that I would either meet him halfway to his house or at his front door. Then we would spend hours sledding and trying to get snow out of the inside of our clothing as we inevitably crashed when trying some "daring" new stunt. The being cold and not caring...

Editing

No.

In my camera bag

I travel simply, My Nikon Coolpix P520, a lens cleaning kit and a spare battery.

Feedback

The same as most of my pictures, set a time and go out and just look around. In this fast paced world it is crucial to take time to unwind so go for a walk by yourself, with your family, with your friends or with your pet but take your camera. You don't have to plan a route, just walk and let the scenery unfold in front of you. When you see it, you'll know. A bush in bloom, a patch of wildflowers throwing brilliant colors onto a green canvas, a sunrise, a sunset, a cloud formation, a tree you may not have noticed before, a wild animal, snow, leaves, waves on a beach with the sun shining through them making the tops sparkle like diamonds and when you find it take it in and capture it. Beauty is everywhere all we have to do is slow down and see it.
