Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at my house in Michigan. This is my view from my front deck when I walk outside. It's the perfect spot to watch the sunrise every morning.

Time

My son and I walked outside one morning around 7:30 am ready to head to school, and we saw how beautiful it was. I grabbed my iPhone from my pocket and took this shot. I love taking sunrise pictures, I have hundreds! This picture was taken in September of 2013.

Lighting

I'm just a beginner at photography. I only have my iPhone camera and Instagram filters. I just pointed my phone at it, made it focus, and snapped the shot. I also used the brightening tool on Instagram.

Equipment

My Apple iPhone 4S.

Inspiration

What inspired me to take this photo was really just it's beauty. If it captures my eye I have to capture it so I can see it again later. I love how this photo shows the sun rays shooting through the clouds.

Editing

I didn't do any post-processing unless using the brightening tool on Instagram counts as that! I did use that on the picture to really show the sun rays coming through the dark clouds.

In my camera bag

I use my Apple iPhone 4S. I also have a Canon PowerShot ELPH 300 HS that I am trying to remember to use more often. My iPhone is usually in my hand or right there within reach so I use that more. Also the battery in my iPhone lasts longer than my Canon camera.

Feedback

My advice for others trying to capture something similar would be to capture the moment right when you see it. Take more than just one shot and from different angles to get the best shot. I've stopped the car safely on the side of the road just to get certain shots, and they were worth it!
