Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the Venice Skatepark, which is located right in the middle of the beach.

Time

I like to check out the Venice drum circle which takes place every Sunday on Venice Beach. After checking that out I usually walk around the beach and boardwalk a bit to take in the Venice atmosphere. This photo was taken right before sunset.

Lighting

The best type of lighting is natural. I particulary like to shoot during "golden" hour, when the sun shines on everything from the side right before sunset.

Inspiration

I grew up skateboarding and have always appreciated the culture. The pairing of this culture with that of Venice beach is a match made in heaven and I am glad I had a chance to capture it.

Editing

I used photoshop to give the background a black and white overlay which I thought really emphasized the skateboarder and his tattoos.
