Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in January on Inle Lake in the Shan State of Myanmar

Time

This is one of my favorite photos from the trip and was taken at sunset on the way back to the hotel after a day of exploring the area. I noticed the two fishermen having a chat and asked if we could stop the boat for a couple of photos. After a couple of shots I realised that i would need to stand up in our very thin and unstable boat to get the right angle for the silhouettes not to merge into the background

Lighting

The sun had just set behind the moutains which turned the refection into a magical gold and orange glow

Equipment

The shot was taken with a Canon 5D Mk3 with 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM

Inspiration

This was a spur of the moment shot, a brief glimpse of the fishermen silhouettes was all the inspiration needed

Editing

The photo was cropped to make the fishermen central and to straighten the horizion, the original photo was a bit wonky due to standing up in a boat I have also reduced the shadow slider in lightroom

In my camera bag

I always pack my Canon 5D and my favorite lens the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM, to accompany that is the EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM, EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM and Mk1 24mm Tilt & Shift

Feedback

Myanmar is an incredible place to be a photographer, there are opportunities around every corner so its just a case of keeping your eyes open. The landscapes are stunning but it is the people of Myanmar which are the real stars of the show
