Location
I took this picture at home in my lounge. I'm still learning and I'm only a basic photographer. I needed a uniform background with texture and the radiator suited. The lack of light contamination from windows etc also helped.Time
I took it late afternoon in the winter time, some could say it was for lighting issues but all honesty I was rushing to meet a deadline for a magazine exercise, the idea popped in and had to be taken pretty much straight away.Lighting
I tried to block out any light contamination and use the artificial to emphasize the subjects and bring out the shadows on the backgroundEquipment
I only have one dslr my Pentax K-r it is my first one and I still use it today, I'm not a big gear head and it suits me. The lens was a cheap manual Pentax 50mm set at f4 and exp of 1/30 iso 100 Due to the exposure time I used a mini tripod.Inspiration
I love black and white photography and entering a magazine exercise for black and whites is a big thrill for me I look forward to it although I'm rubbish at choosing subjects, the small lamp is one bought for weak light on subjects, it just happens that it caught my eye at that time and the idea took root, really because of the humour aspect and curiosity about how it would look.Editing
I use Photoshop from years gone past and I'm nowhere near sufficient with using it however I can do mono work reasonably well. This was square cropped also a slight levels change as well as mono conversionIn my camera bag
I take my Pentax as well as a both tripods mini and 4foot a small pack of filters and maybe my small zoom lens 200mm. Due to budget constraints I can't afford a big decent zoom so I cheat and take my Pentax X90 bridge camera for the zoom, it is also a capable camera for my level and have taken many photos with it instead of my K-rFeedback
Most of what I class as my good captures do not take me long, if the picture is there it is easy to capture, it's only when I try and make something out of nothing I fail. I suppose the KISS method is what I adhere to and it works for me.
