Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Iceland in 2011.

Time

Mid afternoon

Lighting

It was purely accidental that the sun was shining in such a way that it created a blue light in the horses eye. It was nothing I did.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D300 and a Tamron telephoto lens

Inspiration

There was a small herd of horses walking towards us, this one was in the lead. The were fanned out like a V, like geese, and as they approached it started to snow. I take a lot of pictures of horses, and this palomino caught my eye. I have several images of the movement of the small herd and when I started to look at the images I just wanted a close up of this horse. It wasn't until I seriously looked at it that I saw the blue in his eye.

Editing

The only thing I did was crop close to the horses head for effect with the mane and the snow.

In my camera bag

I keep all my lenses and an A mount adapter - I use a SONY A6300 camera with several lenses. A small tripod. I carry a large tripod and a monopod.

Feedback

The only advice I have for photographers is advice I have been given by every photographer I have every spoken to. PATIENCE
