Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in the North Sydney CBD.

Time

Around 2.00pm

Lighting

I specifically went out that day due to the amount of clouds and blue sky. I like to take long exposure photos when the ratio of cloud to sky is roughly 30% cloud to 70% sky. This ensures enough sunlight still hits the facade and allows for contrasting light to give the building depth.

Equipment

I used my Sony a99 with a tamron 28 -70 lens to allow for some zooming. Since the image was a long exposure I used a B+W 3.0, tripod and remote shutter.

Inspiration

I really enjoy architectural photography and have noticed this building when I travel home from work. Its a very unusually facade for a high rise building and I hoped for a good picture.

Editing

I edited photo in photo shop, with curve adjustments, levels, contrast and BW. Also I had to remove a few dust spots with cloning.

In my camera bag

I usually have a99, 28-70mm, 16-35, 50mm, remote shutter, various grade filters, and spare batteries and cards.

Feedback

I would recommend experimenting with long exposure times. Often I think the longer the exposure the better but often a shorter time can achieve fantastic results.
