Behind The Lens

Location

This photo had been taken in Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Particularly, Amsterdam is one of my favorite place for street photography due to specific multicultural and somewhat eccentric atmosphere. That photo is taken outside of the common overcrowded tourist's pathways.

Time

17.37, almost at the end of my another day in Amsterdam.

Lighting

Street photography means the work with the naturally available light. That cloudy day did not provide high contrast, which is good for this image.

Equipment

Nikon D90, AF-Nikkor 35-70 F2.8D with B+W CPL filter.

Inspiration

Of course, the scene of the relation between the girl and her cat leaving their shelter. However, I saw the cat one moment later after the girl's very telling pose towards something attracting on her right. Almost everybody who sees this shot asking me what had happened there? The answer is simple: I do not know, I was just attracted by the scene, nothing more was interesting to me on that street at that very moment.

Editing

Crop and bw transform in Nikon Capture NX.

In my camera bag

Nikon D90 is the only digital body I have. The primary gear is the AF-Nikkor 35-70 F2.8D which the best for street photography due to so convenient zoom range; this pro lens gives superb performance. For crowed places and architecture I use AF-Nikkor 28 F2.8. Two B+W CPL filters for these lenses are always with me to remove reflections from the pavement.

Feedback

One has to love walking and observe people around. Keep camera always on with your finger on the release bottom, street is very dynamic. Feel more than think on the situation in the frame. Technical issues with camera should be automatic for your hands to operate like being blind.
