Location
This photo was taken at a place called Many Glacier in Glacier National Park. We lived near there in Montana for five years and had many opportunities to visit the park. It's an awesome place to spend time in and wander through with a camera.Time
This photo was taken around 10 in the morning in September.Lighting
We lived on the East side of Glacier and often traveled to the West side through the park over Logan Pass. The mornings and evenings offered great opportunities as an amateur photographer to pursue my hobby. My wife always said it was her biggest competition. The nice thing about the morning is that I was able to catch the lakes when it was calm. The lighting was perfect. The only thing I wished it had was a few billowy clouds.Equipment
At the time I was using a Canon EOS Digital Rebel. With the lighting the way it was I did not use a tripod. This was my first digital camera and I used a Canon 18-55 mm lens.Inspiration
It would be impossible for me to pass up an opportunity to shoot such a view that was all laid out for me. All I had to do was be there and shoot it. I don't always have the time or means to go where I would like to go to shoot so I always carry my camera with me and shoot what I see when the opportunity presents itself. I believe that one of the most important traits a can have is to be aware of his/her surroundings in order to the awesome world we live in. My biggest objective has been to record and share with others what I see.Editing
There was no post processing for this photo. In my camera bag
Currently I carry a Canon EOS 70D camera with a Canon EFS 18-135 Image Stabilizer lens. I now also have the Canon 100-400 and the Tamron 150-600 lenses. The Canon is lighter than the Tamron lens so that's the one I carry when I am on foot, unless I know I will need the longer lens. I also make sure I have extra film (SD Cards) and batteries. I also have a Canon EOS 60D with an Canon 18-135 Ultrasonic lens with Macro. One other lens I have but haven't use much is a Sigma 105 mm F2.8 Macro lens. I also ensure that I have a tripod available when needed.Feedback
It would be hard for me to give advice to others about photography as I am not a professional. Photography is a hobby for me that I find very rewarding. I love to get out and shoot what I see, load it onto the computer and see what possibilities there are. When I was shooting film I used negative, positive and black and white film. I always enjoyed the shooting and spending time in the darkroom. It was exciting to see what developed. (Pun or no pun, that is the question.) Anyway, now I can do so much more on the computer and have so much more to learn. My advice is to get out and look and see what there is to see. Stop, look, listen and shoot. The more you do that the more you will see; Bees gathering nector, Dragon flies flittering about, geese chasing each other on a pond, reflection on a lake or pond or window. There is beauty everywhere so stop, look, listen and shoot.
