Thanks, it was just the way the light was sparkling off the dew that was so magical.

Skill doesn't always make for beautiful photos. And beautiful photos are not always due to great skill. This one is both beautiful and skilled. I love the beauty. It is mesmerizing. Thank you and congrats.

Behind The Lens

Location

This shot was taken in my garden in south western Ontario in the fall.

Time

I took it early in the morning when the dew was still on the tall grasses.

Lighting

As any photographer knows early morning or late afternoon when the light is soft & beautiful is the preferred time of day to shoot. I loved the effect of the light on the drops, there is a magical, abstract feeling to the photograph. Playing around with abstraction allows for more flexibility and a more creative approach to photography.

Equipment

At the time the camera I used was a Nikon D90 with a Sigma Zoom 28mm-200mm lens using the macro setting, no flash & no tripod. That setting helped create what is called "circles of confusion".

Inspiration

The light is always my inspiration, if its right I want to get out & shoot.

Editing

I try to do as much processing as possible "in camera". I may crop and adjust colour balance a little but usually very little is done in post.

In my camera bag

I have recently purchased a Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8 lens which I love so its what I always seem to have with me. Camera body is Nikon D90 & I have a 20mm 2.8 Nikkor which I don't use very often, as well as a Sigma 28-200mm zoom. A tripod is something that I probably should use more but instead I try to find something I can lean against to help steady the camera. Unless you're doing studio work I find a tripod cumbersome. A true photographer would shudder to hear that.

Feedback

Someone said at one of my camera club meetings, "don't go looking, just look", very often that favourite shot is right under your nose. I just had to walk out my backdoor to take this shot.
