Thank each of you so very much. I don't get here often and I apologize for my tardiness but your thoughts and observations are very much appreciated.

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Iowa during a Hot Air Balloon Festival.

Time

We actually stumbled on the balloon festival and so many of the balloons had landed as it was growing dark. With the sun setting, I jumped from the car and set about capturing the "golden hour" with the balloon traveling toward me and beyond to land.

Lighting

I love shooting at this time of day. When the light is golden and warm, there is a tendency to feel a softer intimacy with the subject.

Equipment

I shoot with a Canon 5D Mark ii, usually with a Tamron 28-300 or Canon 24-105 lens. The are my "go to" lens' when I am uncertain what I'll find as I travel. I do use a flash and will often have a small reflector at hand that allows me to embellish on the light as needed.

Inspiration

My inspiration was really spur of the moment. We rounded a country road corner and there was the balloon coming in and that wonderful sunset light enshrouding it.

Editing

I did do some post processing to enhance the colors to make sure the image was sharp, but that was about it.

In my camera bag

I usually have my favorite lens' - Tamron 28-300 and Canon 24-105; a smaller reflector/diffuser; tripod; have learned through the years, that when traveling less is more when it comes to transporting all that equipment.

Feedback

Unlike my situation, it is good to check on the areas you will be covering in your travels for events that may be occurring along the way as you are going along. Never depend on the type of "luck" I found in this instance and you will be much further ahead and getting some "killer" photos.
