Behind The Lens

Location

I took this shot at a very small festival run by a friend of my wife, the deck was set up in a tent and linked to a PA system, guests were invited to play anything that took their fancy. I really liked the dust on the turntable and the effect this had on the light.

Time

This was shot at around 8 in the evening.

Lighting

Luckily for me there was a lot of light set around the marquee and so I did not need to use my flash.

Equipment

I shot this with my Nikon D7100, 35mm f/1.8. I used 1/60 sec at f/2.2 and shot handheld.

Inspiration

I loved the dust on the turntable and the way that the light played across it.

Editing

I imported the RAW file into Lightroom and processed it there, I converted it into B&W as I thought that this made for a nicer image.

In my camera bag

I lucked in big time on ebay with my Tokina 12 - 24mm lens. It was virtually new and it is one of my favourite lens'. If I am shooting any landscape shots it is the first thing into my bag alongside my D7100. I always carry my little Nikon 35mm f /1.8, It is tiny and light but the image quality is ridiculous for the price. I use the Cokin P series filter system and always make sure that the polariser is to hand as well as a number of ND Grads. I have just purchased a 10 stop ND filter to fit my Tokina and cant wait to try it out.

Feedback

The main thing is to look out for little details that make the shot stand out, for me it was the layer of dust that excited me.
