Behind The Lens

Location

Believe it or not, this was taken in an unused corner of my bathroom, which I used as a makeshift studio until I could build a separate studio on my property.

Time

Since the room has outside windows, I waited until nighttime so I would have complete control over the light.

Lighting

I had a clear picture in my head of how I wanted this photo to look. But I was new to photography so I wasn't sure exactly how to achieve it. It took some trial and error to figure out the perfect lighting and body placement.

Equipment

This was shot with a Canon Power shot, the built-in timer and a tripod.

Inspiration

I have always admired photos that depict the body's beautiful shape and sensuality without being vulgar. It took a long time to get the nerve up for this picture, and even more to share it.

Editing

Just a little darkening of the background, and converting it to gray-scale.

In my camera bag

I currently carry a Nikon D3000, which usually has the kit lens on. I also have a 200-500mm zoom and a shutter remote.

Feedback

The goal is high contrast between skin and background. Play with different levels and angles of lighting. Small changes can have a big impact.
