Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken while we were in San Diego, California for my step-son's Marine Corp graduation. This was my first trip with my new Nikon D3100 and I was so excited.

Time

This is one of my favorite images from our trip cause I was able to capture a beautiful sunset and have my oldest daughter in the shot too. I wasn't even sure if my photos were going to come out right with me losing lighting so quick that day.

Lighting

Shooting in the golden hour or when the light is perfect is key, but sometimes you don't get that yet you can still get a wonderful shot.

Equipment

I used my Nikon D3100 with a Nikon 55-200 mm lens and a polarizing filter.

Inspiration

I was very eager to get a picture of a sunset because we don't live close to a beach in Texas. I loved the colors that were being cast by the sunset on the water and the orange sky it was creating.

Editing

I only did a small amount of post processing on this photo since I was still new to the whole process. I only adjusted the brightness and contrast and the exposure a little.

In my camera bag

I normally carry my Nikon D3100, my 18-55 mm and 55-200 mm lenses, expo disc, flash, remote shutter.

Feedback

Always be ready with your camera because you can have a beautiful scene in front of you at a moments notice and you never want to miss out on what could turn out the be the most perfect shot.
