Behind The Lens

Location

This photograph was taken at Calangute Beach in Goa. Out of the many beautiful beaches in Goa, this beach is famously known as the "Queen of Beaches".

Time

This photograph was taken on the evening of 31st December 2010 (the New Year's eve) so it makes it the last sunset of 2010 as seen from Calangute beach in Goa.

Lighting

The setting Sun was creating a beautiful play of light on the breaking waves. Loved the magical orange glow in the water and in the wet sand.

Equipment

It was shot on Sony DSC-W80 digital camera handheld. Focal length 5.80mm, aperture f/2.8, shutter speed 1/100 s and ISO of 250.

Inspiration

I love this beach and combination of the beautiful orange glow of the setting sun in the water and wet sand was mesmerizing to the eyes. I wanted to capture that moment of magical glow in my photograph.

Editing

This was an in-camera JPEG shot on the Sony digital camera. I had done some cropping in the post to resize the image.

In my camera bag

Normally I carry my DSLR camera along with few lenses like the telephoto zoom lens and the wide angle lens. But as this was a case of going into the waters at the beach so I only had my compact sony digital camera with me.

Feedback

When trying to shoot sunset at a beach, usually we will have some time to absorb the scene and prepare. Reach the spot little earlier than sunset so that you have time to prepare. Try to identify what is the moment you want to transmit to your viewers. Take a few click to make sure the exposure is correct and how much you should adjust the exposure as the sunlight will change fast during sunset. Then make your composition and shoot a few clicks.
