Behind The Lens

Location

Went to Sanibel Island in Florida on vacation and rode the Thunder boats that take you all around island. The dolphins were riding the waves so I just kept the button down hoping I would catch them. As we were about to end the ride this one dolphin started to jump so I kept my finger holding the button down and I knew I got the picture. This was the highest jump of the day. It was lots of fun and I got so many shots of dolphins that day. I'm not a pro but love to see the result.

Time

Had planed a day ahead of time to go as you have to make reservations. The boat only goes out twice a day so we planned for the 1 pm time. It was a prefect sunny day for it.

Lighting

I set my camera on auto as it was so bright out. But didn't do much else.

Equipment

I had a D90 Nikon at the time no tripod no flash used. I don't remember the lens but it was a zoom lens and Nikon of course.

Inspiration

I was hoping to photograph dolphins in Sanibel and found out this is the best way by boat. I always enjoy capturing something in wild nature that is my best.

Editing

The only thing I did was to crop the photo a little in photo shop. I like to keep my photos as it really is when I see it. So I try to get it as close to that as possible. Don't like to over do it. Must be natural.

In my camera bag

I love Nikon so that is my pick, the D90 was my first digital camera. I now have a Nikon D810 with a 28-300 zoom that I'm still learning. I would love to have a 500mm but this will do for now.

Feedback

You will need a camera with a continuous release so you can catch them. With this you can start to take pictures before the dolphin comes up, just keep the button down and you will get it. Without this you will miss the shot.
