Taken very early AM. I went with a fellow photographer and he was very helpful for me. He let me use his +1 ND filter which brought out the pink in the sky and water. I felt the smoke from the nearby mill added to the overall look of the image

Location
This image was taken in Kamloops, BC, Canada. The North and South Thompson rivers converge into the Thompson River in the middle of the city which is how Kamloops got it's name. The native Shuswap word is Tk'emlups....."meeting of the rivers". I am self taught and was out with a fellow photographer trying to catch the beautiful sunrise.Time
It was taken around 0450 but we had gotten to our spot at 0400. Dark, still a bit chilly and feeling like I didn't really know what I was doing, proceeded to set up the tripod/camera and with advice from my friend started shooting. I learned a lot from this early shoot and was really glad I set the alarm for what I thought at the time an ungodly hour.Lighting
It was a beautiful morning, the river was very calm. I wanted to have the sagebrush standing out in the foreground with Mt Peter & Mt Paul in the left background. I wasn't sure if I really wanted the local mill in the image, I feel it did add to the overall picture. With the sun rising and the clouds in the sky the lighting was great.Equipment
Canon 7D, F 14, Tv 0.6, ISO 125, Canon 15-85 mm, tripod, manual exp. and my friend let me use his +1 grad ND filter which helped bring out the pink in the skyInspiration
Kamloops has some spectacular sunrises/sunsets and with the river flowing through the city, the surrounding low mountains and the sagebrush, they all bring it together.Editing
I use only Digital Photo Professional that came with the camera. If I remember correctly, minimal sharpening, slight contrast change. I don't always do a lot of post-processing.In my camera bag
Haha....I really have very little gear.....a 15-85 mm lens (Iuse it the most), 55-250 mm, external flash, remote shutter release. Always have my flashlight and screwdriver, just in case.Feedback
I haven't travelled a lot and we forget that there is so much around where we live, there is beauty everywhere. Check out when the sun rises so you can get to your destination early, also it's always good to check out spots beforehand so you know where to go. Even take some shots to give you an idea of focus etc. As an amateur myself.......practice, practice and practice some more. Somtimes we have to force ourselves to set the alarm for "early" but it's worth it. ;)
