Behind The Lens

Location

Las Vegas

Time

I had just bought a new camera and was excited to explore the "Strip" at night. I took this shot at 7:20 pm

Lighting

Because of all the neon lighting, I particularly wanted to capture a night shot

Equipment

Olympus Camedia C8080WZ with a WCON-8D wide angle converter. No Flash

Inspiration

I was fascinated by the juxtaposition and scale of the Buildings, and I wanted to capture it at night because of the lighting, making it more dramatic.

Editing

In 2005 I downloaded the FastStone image viewer which allowed me to do basic image corrections.

In my camera bag

I have a Canon 5DMII, Canon EF 24-70mm1:2.8 lens. Canon Speedlite 430 EXII. Canon Camera Bag. Sony Alpha a7 II Mirrorless Digital Camera. Rokinon 14mm 2.8 Lens. Newer TT560 Speedlite. Sony Camera Bag. Photo & Tech wireless remote. Benro Caron Fiber Tripod.

Feedback

Always be aware of your surroundings, and first and foremost, for me, is composition and lighting. Get to know your camera, by that I mean know it inside out so you are ready to take a shot immediately. Think about what you want to capture and experiment with Shutter speed and Aperture. I set my ISO from the start so I'm only concerned with the other 2 variables. Take lots of photos and study each one to see what you did right and what you did wrong. Learn from professional photographers that you admire.
