It is pretty cold out these last few days...like -30c cold. But Laylee LOVES to be out in it. She has just as much fun as if it were summer. Thankfully I can wear many layers and be just fine. :)

I took this photo on one of mine and Laylee's adventures out onto the frozen lake...walking on water! This is Lake Winnipeg and it is about 27000 sq kms large...you feel like you are on a Prairie ocean. When winter comes and the lake freezes over and we would have an extra large playground to adventure out onto. Our favourite time of year there...aside from the Arctic temperatures. I love how the snow drifts form from windy days...turning the lake into a mini mountain scape.Time
This is early afternoon...our second walk of the day. Laylee is a giant (85 lbs) and requires a lot of exercise...well, that and she is still a pup. (not even 2 in this photo) This afternoon was a "warmer" one so we were out for quite some time. This photo is still near the shoreline...the snowy rifts in the background are actually lake water that turned to ice and built up to create some cool caverns and icicles castles to explore. I love this photo because of where the sun is at...breaking through the horizon of "sleeping" winter trees on the beach. Oh...I miss Lake Winnipeg.Lighting
The lighting is natural of course...that beautiful, starting it's downward descent sunshine. The snow creates the greatest diffuser of light...everything looks pretty in the snow! Shadows still hit the ground but there are no darkness on the subject...full illumination. Although...if it is too sunny you can hardly keep your eyes open!!Equipment
Well...to be honest, I am pretty much 100% an iphoneographer. I am thankful for the technology that allows a small device the ability to take such great captures. I was born with one arm and have always taken pictures from an early age. I found cameras to be incredibly cumbersome, especially because I am left handed, in a dominantly right handed world. Ever since I got my first iPhone in 2013 I have been able to do a lot more capturing of the beauty that I see daily. So, I used my iPhone 5, no flash/tripod/lens, to capture my sweet baby girl having a freedom run on the lake.Inspiration
Two things...my love of nature and my undying love for my furry children. I spend each and every day out in the beauty of the natural world...I look up and down and all around. I notice the little wonders of life that dance around our feet, the sparkles on the leaves that wave far above my head...I am so fully inspired by the most beautiful yet simple things that are part of our every day. I see it and I love it. I appreciate it and all I want to do is share what I see with everyone. And then there is the furry one in this pic. She inspires me daily to live in the moment and have fun. Live life fully and love all that we are given in this life...breath and freedom. (well, in Canada I am lucky to have freedom and I certainly cherish it) I am inspired by life, I guess. ;o)Editing
yes. With this pic I used the editing app "snapseed" and used the HDR filter. I love snapseed and am not ashamed to admit it! ;o)In my camera bag
hmmmm. my equipment fits in my back pocket...my iPhone. I would love to one day purchase some "lenses" to for my iPhone one day so that I can play a lot more with the outside world. If I do carry and bag it carries water for me and my dogs, poop bags and usually a doll or tw. Oh yeah, I also have an obsession with dolls and they often are the subject of my photos...generally set in the beauty of the outside world.Feedback
Don't be afraid to get on your belly and lie flat on any surface. My belly got a bit cold to capture this, but it was well worth it! Be fearless. Be adventurous. Think outside the box. Capture what you love most and the image will show that appreciation. Use whatever equipment works best for you and don't worry about what others may say. I get "judged" by people for the fact that I use my iPhone. When I am at a market with my photos on display, some people will come up and adore my photos. Some ask me what kind of camera I use...I respond, "with my iPhone!" They have a disappointed look on their face...like as though it cheapens my efforts. To each their own. Use what is best for you and just get out there and shoot!
