Cute Zebra finches couple. These guys have a lovely whistle when they are in a big flock.

I really appreciate your comments. Your knowledge of birds is fantastic. You are also a great photographer. Thanks for letting me know the species name of the birds.

Location
This image was taken in Orlando, Florida at a local garden/nursery shop. These two Zebra Finches live in a bird and butterfly encounter hosted by the nursery.Time
The photograph was taken late in the afternoon.Lighting
The lighting was tricky. The birds live in a screened enclosure and they moved around a bit. It was difficutly to get a fast enough shutterspeed in the lower light. I did not have a tripod, so I had to do my best to brace the camera.Equipment
I used a Nikon D80 and a Tamron 70-300MM lens (no tripod)Inspiration
I wanted to capture these to Zebra Finches interacting. It was clear they were a couple and didn't need to speak to communicate.Editing
After importing the image into Photoshop, I made a few contrast adjustments and sharpening, but the one thing that really changed the image was removing the background and replacing it with a solid background. It brought more attention to Zebra Finches. In my camera bag
I carry my Nikon, extra batteries, memory cards, an SB700 (flash), a few neutral density filters, a plastic bag in case it rains.and a tripod.Feedback
Photographing animals, birds and nature require patients. First you need to find them. I believe opportunity and motivation are two key factors. People get bored with their surrounding and don't see anything they believe is worth photographing. If the desire is there, all you need is a little detective work and you will discover new and exciting opportunities to use your camera...maybe even in your own back yard. Just down the road from my home is a retention pond. It's not the most exciting surounding, but the three beautiful geese that lived there for years were...at least to me. I would often visit them with my camera and eventually, the geese would pose for me. Yes patients is key, but it's definitely worth it. If your willing to do things to capture great photographs that most people won't (like wait) your images will definitely stand out from the crowd.
