Location
I took this shot in the back yard of this little girl's Granny's house in Oklahoma.Time
It was around 7:00 p.m. in April, it was one of the final shots of the evening before the light got too low. It's my favorite time of day to shoot in the spring and summer.Lighting
I mostly shoot in natural light and find it easier for me to shoot in the evening about 30 minutes to an hour before the sun sets. During this time there are no harsh shadows to deal with and there is something magical about the light.Equipment
This photo was taken hand held with my Canon Rebel T2i and a Tamron 70-200 f2.8 lens. I am self taught and do this mainly as a hobby.Inspiration
This little girl's mother is a friend and wanted me to take some shots of her little girl and her new puppy. They were playing in the back yard and when she leaned down to give her puppy a hug there was just so much love from both of them. As much as a small child and puppy move around, I was actually very lucky to capture this exact moment.Editing
I used photoshop to enhance this photo. I mainly just softened the image slightly with a low opacity Orton effect and burned the edges a bit.In my camera bag
I normally carry my Canon Rebel T2i, the kit lens, a Tamron 70-200 f2.8 lens, an extra battery and two 16g SD cards. I also have a 430 EX II speedlight, but I rarely use it.Feedback
As with any small child and or puppy, they are incredibly active and on the go. My only advise to capture something similar would be to get down on the ground at their level, let them play and interact with each other and snap away. You can gently guide them if they are willing by talking to them, such as saying "Awww your puppy is so cute can you give him a hug" and be ready because I can assure you the moment won't last long.
