Of all the islands in the Hawaiian chain, the Garden Isle of Kaua'i has been my favourite to return to time and time again. While it may be small, the travel experiences here are huge and almost impossible to tear yourself away from. This shot was taken on the north side of the island, near the very popular Ke'e beach which is located essentially at the head of the famed Na Pali Coast. I say head, because most adventurous hikers will begin their trek on the treacherous Kalalau trail, which snakes along the coastline, from this point. Ke'e beach is known for its tumultuous waters and huge waves. And while you can appreciate these from the sandy shores, it is best to go a little ways away from the main beach, on a little path that leads to some big boulders upon which you can sit. That is the best spot to appreciate the Pacific's beauty but also its fury against the backdrop of the jagged Na Pali coast. And of course, the best time to wave watch is as the sun is setting. It just makes everything more magical.
