As a War veteran with PTSD this was probably one of the hardest sessions I have ever faced. This was a real life widow. I shot her wedding just 10 months prior to shooting this session in honor of her husband SGT Bradley Atwell. We did this session to honor his memory after losing his life in Afghanistan in September. God Bless!

in November of 2011 I had to pleasure of shooting this young woman's wedding in the exact same location to her Marine, SGT Bradly Atwell. On September 13th, 2012 I opened up Facebook on my phone and saw that SGT Atwell was killed in action in Afghanistan. I automatically sent out my condolences to Danielle as well as her and Bradlys family. After a few months had passed, I had reached out to Danielle as we had become "Facebook Friends" to tell her that if she was ever back in town to let me know and I would do a memorial session to honor SGT Atwell. She loved the idea and said she would let me know when. I received a phone call from Danielle telling me she was going to be in town and asked if I was still up for the session. Of course I said yes! We decided to go back to where it all started, NAS Pensacola where they were married only 10 months prior. Danielle shared many great memories of Bradly while we were shooting. We both laughed and we both cried. But in the end, we came out with some images that will memorialize SGT Atwell and show how strong his amazing wife was and the love she had for Brad!Editing
I normally bring each of my images into Adobe Camera Raw and make adjustments if needed. They I brought this one in Photoshop just to add a little contrast and pop the colors slightly. This image is almost straight out of the camera! In my camera bag

Allow your subject to let you know when they are comfortable. This is a very hard thing to deal with and if your subject doesnt feel comfortable, you will never capture the true raw feelings behind the story!
