view from the south rim of the Grand Canyon, just outside of Desert View Campground, 5:50am

My wife said something immediately after the camera was lowered that made me consciously aware of something that my mind automatically did while making this image. My wife, my sister, and I arrived at this location around 5:25am. After we arrived it took less than two minutes to adjust the settings to achieve the exposure that I wanted. The exposure shown was made at 5:50am, 23 minutes later...and what happened in between? What happened in between was revealed to me when my wife asked, "why did you wait so long to take the photo; were you waiting for that point directly lower-left from the center to get some sunlight?"....yes. That's exactly what I was waiting for! Except that I was only conscious of it after the fact. Abstract unconscious-conscious thoughts translated into English might read: "no, not yet, not yet, not yet, not yet, the point isn't lit yet, when the point is lit it'll show more depth and dimension, not yet, not yet...[23 minutes of this]..ok, now, quick before it's too late!" I can just barely remember.

It's funny how habits change over time. A year ago, that point would not have been lit in my image, and that would have been awful.
