Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo from a balcony overlooking the grand hall of Union Station in St. Louis, Mo.

Time

This shot was made in the evening overlooking a darkened bar area.

Lighting

The lighting was provided by the lamps on and behind the bar.

Equipment

I made this photo with a leicaflex that a friend gave to me, I balanced the camera on a ledge for the long exposure.

Inspiration

I had recently acquired the photo and was walking around the hotel looking for interesting scenes.

Editing

I developed the film in diafine and did slight exposure and contrast adjustment in Light Room.

In my camera bag

I own several film and digital cameras, when I head out I like to take minimal gear with me. I feel this allows me to pay attention to what is around me rather than what I should be using to capture it.

Feedback

The advice I always give is to understand your gear by using it and get out and shoot.
