I have read that the U.S. Air Force is using the flock formation when moving a large group of aircraft as it saves energy (fuel), as in this picture the surface tension of the water is broken by the first bird less energy is required by those following. Thanks for sharing.

You are right,I heard the same theory about birds flying in the V formation.Each bird flies slighlty above the bird in front,resulting in a reduction of wind resistance.The birds take turn being in front.Thank you for your comments,much appreciated.
