This photo was taken at a Rave in Austin...I was just learning photography and needed some experience. My brother suggested I come to the party and take photos. My brother is a DJ and wanted some pics with his friends. This is my favorite shot of the night...My brother Sir Mar-kiss and his best friend VooDoo.Time
This was taken indoors at about 2am.Lighting
Lighting is tricky at an indoor low lit concert atmosphere. I shot in black and white all night because the colored lighting was not attractive. I placed the subjects in the path of a couple of lights and waited for the right moment. I probably shot 4 or 5 times to get the perfect lighting.Equipment
I used my Canon T3i with my 18-33mm kit lens. No flash, I did use a monopod because of the low lighting I wanted to minimize camera shake.Inspiration
I was inspired by the connection between my brother and Voo. Their energy...their swag. They truly are like brothers. We have a family vacation every year with my mom, my sister and her family, my and my family, my brother and VooDoo (Michael) and his family at the beach. Vacations and family get-togethers would not be the same without Michael and his family.Editing
I just adjusted the contrast a few ticks in Lightroom.In my camera bag
I carry in my bag my Canon T3i with my 18-55mm kit lens, my 17-200mm lens, my 50mm prime, my GoPro, a reversible gold/silver reflector and my iPad. I have in my car I have my Manfrotto tripod and Monopod.Feedback
When capturing a live event such as a concert or party that is poorly lit, it is important to have a tripod or monopod. I always shoot in manual so it is important to take test shots before the event begins to get the camera settings perfect. Remember to enjoy the event while you are shooting it this will help you avoid stale boring shots and allow you to capture the heart of the event.
