Location
When ever I travel I always take my camera and attempt to spend 1 or more days extra in that location just for photography. The story behind this photo is as follows: My wife and I were in Katmandu, Nepal for a few days sometime between Christmas and New Years. On one of the days, we booked a $ A.M. taxi to drive us several hours to a place called Nagarkot. It was so cold standing and waiting for the sunrise at 7200 feet elevation but when the sun lit up the valley and surrounding mountains the temperature was no longer an issue. While every else had their camera pointed towards the sunrise I sought out other views and was able to get this shot.Time
My wife and I left our hotel at 4 morning and took the shot around 6:30 or 7 morning.Lighting
As the morning light crested over the mountain picks (averaging 7000 feet elevation) it cascade down the valley providing several wonderful views. I was fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time for this pic. If I were there 20 minutes later the magnificent lighting would have been gone and the picture would not have been as strong.Equipment
Cannon 1000D with wide angle lens. I did not have a tripod so I sat down and braced my elbows on a railing.Inspiration
I love landscape photography and being in exotic places. This photo fit both categories. On that morning I took a number of good pics all because the light was just right. In this exact photo I like the three steps of depth that are found in the buildings, hill and mountain. It truly draws you into the photo. Also the height of the mountains is shown by vertical use of a wide lens.Editing
I added a basic S curve and adjusted the levels slightly. In my camera bag
