A few miles East of the Astoria Bridge over the Columbia River rests the shipwreck of the USS Plainview (AGEH-1). At the time of it's launch in 1965, it was the the world's largest hydrofoil and saw service as the United States Navy's first hydrofoil research ship. The USS Plainview was decommissioned in 1978, sold for scrap and now sits along the Washington side of the Columbia River.
