Location
I took this picture from Brooklyn looking at downtown Manhattan.Time
I waited all day for the sunset. I used the daytime to walk around in NYC and check out some landmarks. By sunset time, I went to that location and waited for the perfect light.Lighting
I have taken the same picture many times before but I never got lucky with the sunset light. The sun sets behind the buildings so I was looking for a warm glow that would provide a backlight for the city. This time it was just perfect! Clear sky, beautiful yellow horizon and blue skies. The city lights came on and everything came together beautifully.Equipment
I used my canon t3i and 18-55 lens with a tripod.Inspiration
I am an engineer and I just love Brooklyn Bridge. The story of its construction is truly inspiring and it is still standing after more than 130 years. Downtown Manhattan provides the perfect backdrop for this bridge. It is one of the most beautiful cityscapes in my opinion.Editing
I love reflections in water and on any reflective medium really. I always had this vision in my head that the cityscape with completely be reflected in the East River. However, in reality it is very difficult to achieve that because the East River is a fast moving river with lots of ships and barges. I used Photoshop to bring my vision to life by mirroring the cityscape into the East River. In my camera bag
I like to travel very light so I usually have my Canon t3i with those lenses: 18-55, 70-300 and 10-18.Feedback
Have a sturdy tripod. Explore different setups and different angles to capture the landscape. I have come to find that the lower the camera is the more depth the photographs have.
